新造空间正在展出《海边墓园》，这是青年艺术家朱湘的最新个展。朱湘出生于粤西沿海小镇，毕业于广州美术学院油画系，现生活工作于广东。近年她追溯“家庭历史”，有感于个体浮沤般的命运，开始从真实存在过的“无名者”们看向历史空白之处。

在此次展览中，艺术家选择从自身家庭出发，通过梳理、整合重要家庭历史事件发生前后记载当事者心迹的家书、日记、照片等资料，以影像、装置等艺术形式重构了一段隐秘的家庭史，再现了特定历史背景下特殊而无法磨灭的家族记忆和情感。鱼线上的珍珠、鱼钩、芒草杆、泡沫浮球、芒果形状的蜡烛、历史材料切片、艺术家对家庭生活的回忆与书写、艺术影像……共同构建出一个时空共感的场域，个体创伤背后的结构性暴力在理性而不失张力的叙事中显现。展览将持续到2023年8月30日。

Making Space is presenting “The Seaside Cemetery”, the latest solo exhibition by Zhu Xiang. She was born in a coastal town in western Guangdong, obtained her degree from the Oil Painting Department of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and currently resides and works in Guangdong. She has conducted series of “family history”, motivated by the individual destinies that are marginalized and forgotten by official history, and explored the historical gaps from the standpoint of people with no name.

In this exhibition, Zhu Xiang adopts a personal approach, and presents a selection of documents from her own family , such as letters, diaries, photos, etc., that record the inner states of family members before and after major tragic events. She employs various artistic forms, such as images and installations, to reconstruct a family history that is concealed and unspoken. She examines the family memories and emotions that are influenced and preserved by a specific historical setting. Pearls on fish silk threads, fish hooks, silver grass stems, foam floats, mango-shaped candles, historical material slices, diaries about family memories, videos… they form a field of temporal and spatial resonance, and the structural violence that underlies individual trauma is manifested in a rational but expressive narrative. The exhibition will be open until August 30, 2023.
