Making Space 新造空间

Making Space is a contemporary research-based art space located in Guangzhou. It was founded in 2017 by artist Piao You and is now co-directed with curator Binghuang Xu.

We regard space as the connection of the art scene and society, emphasising the significance of long-term and in-depth research, care-driven collaboration relationships and companionship. Through transdisciplinary collaboration - via workshops, exhibitions, artwork archives, zines, residencies, translations, and more - we aim to offer a practice space that responds to diverse issues. Such as overlooked environments/places/countryside, dialects and memories, non-degree education, family histories, and other topics.

新造空间着力“回归（于）人的艺术和行动”。关注个人在复杂环境中，认知、探索、表达、向外拓展的具体实践。关注在社会形态和文化观念急剧变化的时代，个体面对整体趋势、生存困局、主动作出的，有创见性的举动。

作为一个由艺术家及策展人所主导的场所，我们将空间视为连接艺术与社会的中介，同时强调深入且长期的研究、协作关系与陪伴的重要性。在跨领域合作中，通过展览、出版物、工作坊、戏剧表演、艺术驻留、翻译等形式，为多元议题提供一个回应的练习空间。如，被忽视的地方/乡村、方言和记忆，非学历教育、家庭史等议题。
